The delivery date is not yet known, but Adidas is ready to make an impact. The German group has often described the 'Speedfactory' programme as a crucial element for its future industrial and commercial success. The first of Adidas' Speedfactory production facilities is now in operation in Ansbach, Germany. It is designed to provide greater flexibility and speed in the manufacturing and marketing of the sports outfitter's products.

This past May the group stated it would be able to kick off Speedfactory manufacturing operations in 2017 and has now announced it has selected the first model to be produced. It is a running shoe called Futurecraft M.F.G., which stands for 'Made For Germany'.

Adidas' Vice-President of Design, Ben Herath, explained that "from a design point of view, Speedfactory gives us the opportunity to explore new ways to fashion the perfect shoe. The factory enables us to exploit data and analyses to build future performance products." Adidas' ambition is clearly to achieve greater product customisation.

The programme will also be launched in the USA, and a manufacturing unit is set to be built close to Atlanta.
