Alessandro Benetton resigns from Benetton board of directors
Alessandro Benetton has resigned from the board of directors of the Benetton Group. The news was reported by local Italian daily paper La Tribuna di Treviso. The son of Luciano Benetton has reportedly stepped down due to his disagreement with the Italian fashion group's future projects. Alessandro was Executive President of Benetton until 2013, when he was replaced by Gianni Mion and Marco Airoldi. He appears to be against the ongoing company restructuring and in favour of relaunching the historic label. Contacted by FashionNetwork.com, Benetton stated that this is the case of a normal turnover within the board of directors.
In 2017, Benetton's holding company will be led by new managers Marco Patuano, appointed CEO in place of Gianni Mion, and Fabio Cerchiai, who takes over as President, replacing Gilberto Benetton. Cerchiai is currently in charge of Atlantia, the controlling company of Autostrade per l'Italia and Aeroporti di Roma.
This will further upset the balance of power within the Benetton family, already hard hit by the group's split in three areas: manufacturing, real estate and retail operations.
In 2015 the Benetton Group was once again in the red, and recorded a net loss of €46 million, with revenue at €1.5 billion, down 1.2% compared to 2014.
