The documentary promises to give fans an intimate look at McQueen's rags-to-riches story, which Embankment Studios describes as a modern-day fairy tale laced with the gothic. The film's synopsis says the documentary will follow the story of "an unremarkable working-class boy from East London" who would go on to become an iconic artist and titan in the fashion industry. "How did this punk rebel overturn the silver-spoon world of Paris haute couture, ushering in the heady, revolutionary era of ‘Cool Britannia'? And why, at the height of acclaim and power, did he shockingly put an end to it all?", teases the film's description.

The documentary will be directed by Ian Bonhote and written by Peter Ettedgui. Bonhone is a familiar figure in the advertising and music industry, having directed of international campaigns for brands such as Puma, Nike and Pepsi, and music promos for artists including Mumford & Sons, Morcheeba, Tom Jones and Jamie Cullen.

According to Variety Magazine, he already has a few fashion projects under his belt, having collaborated with fashion designers Matthew Williamson and Hussein Chalayan on films. He also worked with model Lily Cole on her film “Perfection.”

Most recently his latest fashion industry film, “La Lucha,” a short film featuring stylized goth fashion looks set in a boxing gym, won multiple awards at La Jolla Intl. Fashion Film Festival, the Miami Fashion Film Festival and the Bruxelles Intl. Fashion Film Festival.

The McQueen documentary follows the announcement last fall of a biopic feature film distributed by Pathe and starring Jack O'Connell ("Unbroken" and "Money Monster") as McQueen. Filming will start this spring.
