According to the Baltimore Sun, the Baltimore County Council voted unanimously in favor of a $2.2 million incentive package as part of a bid to attract Amazon to an industrial development being set up at Tradepoint Atlantic, the site of a former steel mill.

The facility, which will be the online retailer's fourth Maryland fulfillment center, is expected to provide full-time jobs for more than 1,500 associates.

Amazon already employs more than 5,000 people in the three fulfillment centers it operates in the state, two of which are in Baltimore.

Sanjay Shah, Amazon’s vice president of North America customer fulfillment said that the company was aiming to establish a “state-of-the-art fulfillment center in historic Sparrows Point and to continue innovation in a state committed to providing great opportunities for jobs and customer experience.”

Meanwhile, Amazon's search for a site for its HQ2 continues. Baltimore County has not made a bid for this project, choosing instead to back a submission from the developers of the 235-acre Baltimore City waterfront redevelopment Port Covington.
