Mariette Hoitink and Lucel van den Hoeven, the co-founders of House of Denim, Jean School and Amsterdam Denim Days, Andrew Olah of Kingpins Show and Deputy Mayor of the City of Amsterdam Kajsa Ollongren announced the new show at their “Towards a Brighter Blue” event at the Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York this month. The event was part of a special trade mission in New York City, organized by the City of Amsterdam and Ollongren.

Towards a Brighter Blue marked the first time a trade mission revolved entirely around arts and culture from Amsterdam. The event also featured interactive sessions on the Indigo Embassy, Jean School and Denim City.

“New York Denim Days is aiming to be the center of attention for all those with an indigo heart,” said van den Hoeven. “The program will have something for denim lovers of every kind. It will feature a selection of leading denim labels, workshops, a market and exhibitions for style-setting devotees on the street to the greatest innovators in the industry.”

Hoitink added, “Our main goals for this visit to New York are to present Amsterdam as the denim hub of Europe, to strengthen and intensify the existing ties, promote new partnerships and encourage the exchange of knowledge, expertise and new networks”

Amsterdam Denim Days is a series of related events in Amsterdam that provide an opportunity for denim brands, producers, consumers, press and designers to celebrate all things indigo. The festival is initiated by House of Denim, a platform for craftsmanship, sustainability and innovation in the denim industry, in collaboration with Modefabriek, Kingpins Show, HTNK Fashion recruitment & consultancy, Amsterdam Marketing and the city of Amsterdam.

Kingpins Show is an invitation-only, boutique denim sourcing show that includes denim and sportswear fabric mills from the US, Japan, China, India, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, Thailand, Spain and Mexico. The show launched in 2004 and produces biannual shows in New York and Amsterdam and an annual show in Hong Kong.
