Band of Outsiders to relaunch again with new creative team

Published
Dec 16, 2016

Only months after its relaunch, Band of Outsiders is being transformed again.  The label, which relaunched in August following the departure of its founder Scott Sternberg last year, has dismissed the creative trio behind the first relaunch and named a new team.

Founded in 2003 in LA, Band of Outsiders quickly gained a cult following for its preppy West Coast vibe. Its products were stocked in 225 stockists worldwide including Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, Colette and Net-a-Porter, and the brand extended itself and opened flagship stores in NYC and Tokyo.

In 2015 the brand went into a period of transition and was acquired by fashion venture capital firm CLCC, which decided to relaunch it without the involvement of its founder in August this year.

The new creative team will be led by Savile Row trained designer Angelo Van Mol, who graduated from the Royal Academy of Antwerp and  Brand Director Daniel Hettmann, whose experience across the industry includes casting for brands such as Macys, working with designers such as LA based 69us and show production for Vetements. They will work in close collaboration with CLCC MD Antony Verbaeys to create a brand focused solely on menswear.

The group takes the reigns from Matthias Weber, Niklaus Hodel and Florian Feder, who created a womenswear and menswear collection presented in September during New York Fashion Week.

Their street style-inspired Spring 2017 collection, featuring oversized jumpers, basketball shorts and suits mixed with sweats, and was met with mixed reviews. The second relaunch will see the brand return to the west coast, preppy-with-a-twist DNA its gained notoriety for.

Rooted in film and LA in general, and with strong Hollywood ties, the team will present the new AW17 collection to buyers and press privately during the menswear fashion weeks in Paris and New York in early 2017.

Prices will range from $85 for T shirts to $1500 for premium pieces.
