Bottega Veneta will continue with co-ed runway

Last September, Bottega Veneta hosted for the first time a combined men's and women's runway show. Its parent company, the luxury house Kering Group, deemed the event to be "outstanding," a celebration of the label's 50th anniversary and 15 years of Tomas Maier as its artistic director.

Given the success of the show held at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, which marked one of the highlights of the Women's Milan Fashion Week, the brand has decided on a repeat and is now formally adopting this new co-ed runway presentation.

“Beginning in 2017, the house will unveil its collections twice a year at two mixed shows, which will present the collections fall / winter and spring / summer, in February and September respectively during the Women's Milan Fashion Week," the brand said in a statement.

This move is similar to that of Gucci, another house of the Kering galaxy, which will organize a single runway for both its men and women collections in 2017.

Bottega Veneta "will nevertheless continue to respect a runway and launch schedule that gives it sufficient time to create the collections," it said, reaffirming its intention not to give in to the formula of "see now buy now."

This decision comes in the wake of multiple changes that have affected fashion calendars for a year now, constituting a thorough shake-up of the system. Several houses have essentially become more pragmatic, given the ongoing weak economic context, thus opting for a single combined catwalk that reduces costs.
