Burberry: Riccardo Tisci's first looks unveiled

Appointed creative director of Burberry on March 12, Riccardo Tisci certainly hasn't wasted any time. The Italian designer, who has been entrusted with the ambitious task of taking up the reins from Christopher Bailey, has just unveiled via Instagram his first looks for the house.

Drawing largely on the DNA of the British luxury label by revisiting its classics, the campaign features a series of couples, men and women intertwined with faces hidden, each wearing the same outfit as his or her counterpart. The trenchcoat, maxi kilt, puffer jacket, famous gabardine waterproof 'car coat' and the poncho with the iconic Burberry check all make an appearance.

Such are the pieces that the Italian designer, who was the creative director at Givenchy for 13 years alongside the British label's current CEO Marco Gobbetti, has chosen to reinterpret. The 12 looks are the first to be revealed ahead of the designer's first show for Burberry, scheduled for September in London.

In an Instagram caption, Tisci wrote: "I wanted to celebrate the beauty, heritage and legacy that I discovered when I first arrived at Burberry. ‘B Classic' is an edit that I've curated to honour the icons of the House - pieces like the trench coat, the quilted jacket, the car coat, the kilt - which sits at the heart of the SS19 pre collection designed by the fantastic Burberry design team."

The label, now well into its relaunch, is looking to put the focus on product. It has just announced the acquisition of its former supplier,  Tuscan leathergoods specialist CF&P, in order to create a centre of production excellence and gain deeper control over quality and its production line.
