Chanel launches online shop in the UK

Chanel has been taking several steps to bolster its digital presence, and the UK has become the target of one of its latest ventures with an e-commerce site for the brand’s eyewear collection.

The platform makes Chanel sunglasses available for online purchase for the first time from the brand’s own site in the UK, stocking a vast range of embellished shades, trend-inspired shield sunglasses and sleek cat's eye styles. Customers can choose to purchase online, reserve items and try them on in store or click-and-collect from the label's Burlington Arcade boutique.

The launch coincides with the re-opening of the Burlington Arcade store as a dedicated eyewear boutique. First opened in 2014, the space will now feature the latest styles and classic pieces.

Chanel also sells fragrances and beauty products online, however the recent push is likely to be linked to the brand’s new partnership with global e-commerce company Farfetch. Announced earlier this year, Chanel said the tie-up will look into developing digital initiatives and better in-store experiences to better target millennial consumers.

For the first time ever, the fashion house released details about its financial performance in June, saying that profits reached $1.79bn (£1.35bn) last year, and were up 18% on the year before. The independent business said the numbers were released to show its financial strength.
