Fabletics expands size range to plus sizes

Published
Apr 4, 2017

Fabletics is taking the next step in its mission of inclusivity by extending its product sizes to XXS to 3X.

Fabletics Co-Founder Kate Hudson announces expansion into extended sizes

Joining companies such as Nike and Target that recently introduced plus size collections, Fabletics expanded its sizes to provide for all body types, including petite. The new range features performance details such as wider bands and adjustable straps and closures on bra tops.

“We don't see this as the introduction of a separate line but an extension of our brand that now allows us to embrace all the amazing women who are, or want to become, part of our community," said Fabletics co-founder Kate Hudson.

Fabletics may counter the slowing athleisure trend by channeling the billion dollar plus size market. Analysts believe that shoppers may be experiencing athleisure fatigue following shares declines for Nike, Lululemon and Under Armour on Friday. In addition, growth for the athleisure market is expected to slow to 5.2% in 2017, compared to the average growth of 6.9% from the past five years. Expanding its product range on both ends of the size scale allows for Fabletics to further capitalize on its momentum, despite the recent slow down in the athleisure market.

The activewear brand and online subscription service launched in 2013 and quickly became a premier performance label for its fashion-forward activewear for women. Fabletics announced in January that it posted 200% growth in just two years and retail growth of 644% in 2016, driven by its swift retail expansion.

Fabletics currently operates 18 stores in the US and plans to operate 30 retail locations by the end of 2017.
