Fast Retailing's GU to debut in South Korea with first store opening this fall

Fast Retailing's GU brand is set to launch in South Korea for the first time this autumn with a store opening at the Lotte World Mall in Seoul, under the brand message “Your Freedom”.

GU’s first flagship store in Korea is scheduled to open at the Lotte World Mall located in Seoul’s south-eastern Jamsil district. The store will be spread over 1,400 square metres and include men’s, women’s, and children’s wear.

"I am thrilled to launch GU in Korea, which is such a fashion-conscious country,” said GU’s Chief Executive Officer Yunoki Osamu in a statement. “Launching here is a big step for GU, and we will endeavour to deliver fashion that reflects the latest trends and which frees our customers, while also providing a sincere service experience for the people of Korea."

GU aims to further expand its Korean retail footprint, should the Lotte World Mall launch prove successful. Fast Retailing launched another of its fast fashion brands, Uniqlo, in Korea in September 2005 and the brand has grown to total 183 stores across Korea as of April 2018.
