The next edition of the Paris Haute Couture Week will host no less than six new names: Antonio Grimaldi, Galia Lahav, Georges Hobeika, Hyun Mi Nielsen, Maison Rabih Kayrouz and Xuan.

The executive committee of the Haute Couture's Chambre Syndicale (trade association) has in fact selected these six labels as new 'invitees', giving them the chance to present their collections at next January's couture shows.

The Chambre Syndicale has also re-invited the members hosted in previous sessions: Aouadi, Francesco Scognamiglio, Guo Pei, Iris Van Herpen, Julien Fournié, Ralph & Russo, Schiaparelli, Ulyana Sergeenko, Vetements, Yuima Nakazato and Zuhair Murad.

The new invitees will benefit from a great deal of media exposure, offering a big boost to these highly diverse couturiers comprising both well-established names and emerging designers. Among the newcomers, for example, is Christine Hyun Mi Nielsen, whose very first collection under the label Hyun Mi Nielsen will be unveiled at the Haute Couture show in Paris next January.

The Danish designer was born in South Korea, grew up in Copenhagen and was educated in London, were she attended the Royal College of Art and Design. Christine Hyun Mi Nielsen now lives and works in Paris. She was notably director of the women's ready-to-wear atelier at Balenciaga and Givenchy, and was in charge of womenswear design at Alexander McQueen in London.

Dutch designer of Vietnamese origin Xuan Thu Nguyen has also settled in Paris. A graduate of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, Xuan Thu Nguyen arrived in the French capital in 2005, and in July 2008 she began showing her haute couture collections at the Paris fashion week.

She has meanwhile broadened the scope of her label Xuan by including ready-to-wear apparel. Her style is distinctive for its contemporary cuts infused with a touch of poetry, blending geometrical shapes and dainty details such as hand-made embroidery.

Antonio Grimaldi was born in southern Italy and is based in Rome. He too has been showing his couture and ready-to-wear collections in Paris for a number of seasons. Grimaldi is distinctive for his typical Italian craftsmanship, and the label is distributed in the Middle East, the U.S. and in Japan.

Lebanese designer Georges Hobeika is another regular on the Parisian runways. His fashion label was founded in Beirut in 1984, and over time it has grown in scope. It currently features three ready-to-wear lines besides the couture collection: Georges Hobeika Bridal, Georges Hobeika Signature and GH by Georges Hobeika.

Galia Lahava was born in Tel Aviv, Israel to a Russian family, where she operates an atelier with about one hundred employees. She founded her fashion label 30 years ago, after starting out in the lace business.  She specialises in evening and wedding gowns that stand out for their lavishness and are much sought-after by celebrities.
