Hollister launches 'Surf's Up' mobile game on Snapcodes and Rovio

Hollister is taking a unique approach to attracting and retaining its customers. The company this month launched a Hollister ‘Surf’s Up’ mobile game, created in partnership with Rovio Entertainment and TreSensa.

The retro-inspired game, which is available on Snapcodes on Snapchat and the Rovio network, takes the player surfing in the open ocean to collect pizzas and avoid sharks while catching waves. Chief Marketing Officer Will Smith told AdAge that he hopes the game will reach 10 million teens.

Running the Surf’s Up game on Snapchat is a wise decision for the teen apparel retailer. According to a survey report from Euclid, Generation Z shoppers (consumers born after the mid 90’s through the early 2000s) use Snapchat more than any other social media app while shopping. The teens and young adults will be reminded to shop at Hollister while at the mall or shopping at another retailer.

In addition, Hollister will promote the game at select stores and on social media apps Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.

Abercrombie recently announced Hollister's first quarterly comparable sales rise in a year. Despite the increase, the company reported a 7% net sales decline, continuing its quarterly sales decline streak.
