Hurley: changes in its Europe management team

The Nike group plays with the proximity of skateboarding and surfing in Europe. Since this summer, the Hurley management team, its surf brand, has been renewed. And it is managers with a Nike SB background who have taken over.

Javier Carrera is thus the new general manager of Hurley in Europe. A role that he will fill alongside his role as the big boss of Nike SB for western Europe. Carrera joined Nike in June, 2012. Prior to that he was vice president and general manager of Quiksilver for Latin America. He also oversaw DC Shoes Iberia between 2005 and 2007 and Hawk and Gotcha in 2004-2005.

At Hurley he takes over for Peter Smith, who took on the management of Europe at the beginning of 2013 and who left the group to create a consulting and distribution firm for lifestyle brands looking to find a place in Europe.

In parallel to Javier Carrera's new additional role, Koen Van Isenghem, who was the head of marketing of Nike SB Europe, and who notably was the contact for sponsored athletes, has taken on the marketing of Europe. Active in the world of boardsports since the 00's, notably via its distribution company that was closed in 2004, he joined Nike in 2006 after two years at Quiksilver for the Benelux market.

Finally, since June, the Hurley sales teams in Europe are under the leadership of Arancha Alamo. The executive is also from the world of Nike's action sports teams (sales director for the Iberian Peninsula in 2011-2012). Recently she was responsible for Nike's running key accounts.

The group did not give details for the results of its surf brand for its 2014 financial year closed on 31 May, but for 2013 global revenue reached 972 million dollars (621 million pounds).
