Iceberg entrusts womenswear to James Long

Iceberg wanted to harmonize its women's ready-to-wear apparel with the men's line. The Italian fashion label belonging to the Gilmar group has now announced in a press release the decision to entrust all its collections to one designer only, James Long, who was already in charge of men's style since last November.

James Long - Iceberg

Viennese designer Arthur Arbesser took charge of the women's collections in June 2015, but his contract was not renewed and he has been dismissed after just one year.

Gilmar's boss Paolo Gerani appears to have found in James Long's work the kind of fashion vision which is closer to the brand's tongue-in-cheek attitude. Above all, the group has decided to change its strategy, choosing not to show with Iceberg any more, and to lean towards a more urban, more commercial range.

The young British designer will take full creative charge of Iceberg from the Autumn/Winter 2017-18, though he has already had a hand in the Summer 2017 women's collection. The latter was created by an internal design team and will not be shown this season, though it will be regularly presented to buyers.

James Long holds a Master's degree in menswear and accessories from the Royal College of Art and is regarded as one of the most promising talents on the London scene, where he shows his own menswear line, which was launched in 2011.

Iceberg is also expected to reveal the details of a project with Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, who led the brand during its golden era in the 1980s, giving it a distinctive pop art imprint.
