Korean label Bmuet(te) launches womenswear collection

Bmuet(te) was founded in 2012 by London-based Korean duo Byungmun Seo and Jina Um. From its inception, the label made a name for itself with totally unconventional men's ready-to-wear apparel, re-thinking traditional fabrication methods and featuring avant-garde silhouettes with a penchant for asymmetry.

Bmuet(te) was short-listed for the WSGN Global Fashion Awards the year of its first catwalk show, at Who’s on next? Dubai 2015, and was recently invited to Pitti Uomo in Florence. It sparked an instant buzz with its quirky style and uber-structured collections, featuring oversize-plus bomber jackets, overcoats and sweaters in unusual fabric combinations, and a skimpy colour palette of black, white and hints of olive green and blue-grey.

Until now, Bmuet(te)'s womenswear wardrobe was limited to a handful of items presented at the men's show in Seoul, but this year the label has added to it. Paris' latest Tranoï trade show has in fact showcased a complete women's collection labelled Bmuette (minus the brackets), steeped in the same unconventional mood as the men's, with a mix of luxury and budget fabrics for a premium designer positioning.

The label is distributed via about twenty multibrand retailers in Korea and China, and also at Harvey Nichols Hong Kong. It is now keen to expand on the European market, where it is already present in some ten stores in Germany, Italy and the UK. An expansion, especially in Europe and the USA, which will be accelerated by the development of the Bmuette women's collection.
