The international organization Equileap, created to accelerate progress towards gender equality in the workplace, has just published its first cross-sector classification, which shows the conduct of the biggest companies in the world with regards to gender equality. L’Oréal led the world rankings.

L’Oréal receives international distinction - L'Oréal

L’Oréal earned the number one spot among more than 3,000 companies across 23 countries, on the basis of 19 gender-equality criteria. The information was obtained from public sources and investigated in collaboration with the Group of Economic Sustainability from Holland’s Maastricht University.

Of the distinction, Jean-Claude Le Grand, senior vice president of talent development and Director of Diversity at L’Oréal, stated, “Our belief is that gender equality is a strategic pillar for the performance and growth of the company. We firmly believe that diversified teams are more successful. To be recognized as a defender of gender equality among more 3,000 companies worldwide is a huge honor and an incentive to go farther.”

According to the official data published by L’Oréal, women make up 70 percent of the French company's total workforce, 62 percent of the executives, 33 percent of Executive committee members and 46 percent of its Board members; 58 percent of L’Oréal's brands are led by women.

In recognition of its progress towards gender equality in the workplace, L’Oréal received the GEEIS (Gender Equality European and International Standard) and EDGE (The Global Business Certification Standard for Gender Equality) certifications in 30 countries.
