Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche celebrates Louis Vuitton

Published
Sep 21, 2015

For just over a month, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche's window displays will celebrate Louis Vuitton through Nicolas Ghesquière's creations. The womenswear line's creative director has assembled a selection of "new classics" for the occasion, a range of exclusive items that reinterpret the brand's iconic handbags.

The Twist handbag

Among the leading pieces will be the Petite Malle, presented at Nicolas Ghesquière's first fashion show in March 2014. "It's a bag that fits contemporary life perfectly," he explained, "since the trunk isn't appropriate to our travel needs any more." The idea behind it is to "keep the message consistent while adapting it to the 21st century."

Another item on show is the Twist handbag, which revamps the 1988 clutch-bag Trapèze, with a buckle featuring two 'V' letters to create the LV signature. It's a handbag version of the original, adopting its design tenets and adding an adjustable chain.

Another icon is the GO-2014 bag, presented at Nicolas Ghesquière's first show at the Louis Vuitton Foundation, directly inspired by the criss-cross embossing which is one of the label's historic codes, echoing the designer's revelatory trip to Japan. The Dora, on the other hand, is directly inspired by the Marceau handbag and alludes to Picasso's muse Dora Marr.

In addition to these items, Louis Vuitton will exclusively showcase a 'New Classics' collection in unusual colours, among them a navy blue woollen pea jacket with fur collar, a pair of booties in indigo leather with a liquorice-coloured tip, and an orange and blue woollen stole.
