London prepares for Men’s Fashion Week

Published
Dec 13, 2012

The Autumn-Winter 2013/2014 men’s season will kick off in London on the 7 January, marking the second edition of “London Collections: Men”. The event was launched in June 2012 by the British Fashion Council to help strengthen the position of British menswear on an international scale. The first winter session will welcome home Alexander McQueen, who will no longer be showing in Milan, much to the joy of the British Fashion Council.

Tom Ford will be showing his collection to a chosen few as he does with his women’s wear collections. Tailor Hardy Amies, owned by Li & Fung, will be showing for the first time after making his debut at Pitti Uomo in 2012. Although committed to other events, Burberry, Joseph Abboud, Belstaff and C.P. Company will be having collection previews, consisting of a static presentation of their respective collections. Brand Pretty Green by Liam Gallagher, Hentsch Man and Qasimi are also due stage non-catwalk events at “LC:M”.

Some designers will benefit from the opportunity to mark their own territory, as is the case for Nicholas Kirkwood who will be presenting his first men’s shoe collection. Richard Nicoll and Meadham Kirchoff will both be showcasing their second men’s collections. In terms of emerging talent, the duo Agi & Sam, Astrid Andersen and Craig Deen will be showing at the MAN event, thanks to sponsorship from Topshop and Fashion East.

A menswear committee has been selected for this season and will be led by Dylan Jones, Head of Development of Men’s Fashion Week, who was elected last summer to lead a 2 year term at the committee. The Editor-in-Chief of British GQ has rounded up a board of 20 members including industry heavy-weights Tim Black (style.com) and Iman Amred (Business of Fashion), as well as rapper Tinnie Tempah in order to reinforce London’s position on the global fashion map.

In an attempt to showcase the event, the British Fashion Council has created the following video, showcasing the diversity of the designers that will be showing at “London Collections: Men” The following video clip features items from Agi & Sam, Beauty Berry, Burberry, E. Tautz, Gieves & Hawkes, Hardy Amies, Jonathan Saunders, John Lobb, Matthew Miller, Oliver Spencer, Paul Smith, Richard James, Richard Nicoll and Xander Zhou.
