Louis Vuitton, Rick Owens and Issey Miyake take on Paris Fashion Week Men's

Louis Vuitton kicked off the second day of Paris Fashion Week with a Spring / Summer 2017 menswear collection that brought a slice of Africa to the French capital.

Designer Kim Jones revealed a collection steeped in widespread references to the continent, from Cape Town to Kenya. There were animal print sweatshirts, zigzag printed trench coats and giraffe motifs splashed across monogrammed silk shirts.

This was accompanied by punkish tartan checks, slick bomber jackets and safari-style tops, with slim trousers rolled just above the ankle keeping the look sharp and street. Tailoring was precise but the approach was playful, resulting in both casual and formal looks that oozed tributes to the continent, right down to the models' zebra-striped loafers.

Rick Owens took the season's trend for lightweight and dreamlike garments to the extreme, debuting a series of billowing separates that were hemmed and pinned, sculpture-like, to the body. Longline tunics were wrapped around themselves to create abstract forms, teamed with floaty parachute pants and sneakers. Mustard yellows and burgundies made a brief appearance, but the designer soon returned to his failsafe black to underline his trademark Gothic vibe.

The mood was much lighter and breezier over at Issey Miyake, where primary colors and tie-dye motifs were the order of the day. The Japanese designer also promoted the tunic, but tops were paired with cropped white trousers and swirly patterned bomber jackets for a fresh approach to Spring 2017.
