The Cruise collection by Chanel was all about the show, and Louis Vuitton couldn’t do less. Karl Lagerfeld used the city’s boardwalk as a catwalk, with the people of La Havana as privileged spectators. Guesquière, creative director for Vuitton, chose a different but equally spectacular stage: the Niterio Contemporary Art Museum (CAM), a white building shaped like a saucer, with direct views on Guanabara Bay.
Nicolas Ghesquière showcased a collection mixing logos, sports and modernism. He went out of his way and reinvented, with a very personal touch, the Rio girl.
Argentinean model Mica Arganaraz opened the catwalk with vibrant colors condensing the whole collection: red, blue and yellow. A genuine urban jungle with asymmetries, logos, prints and check prints… with some designs standing out as probable objects of desire for the next collection, such as the fringe handbag.
With the Olympic Games approaching rapidly, and soccer being the king of sports in the country that gave birth to top models such as Isabeli Fontana and Alessandra Ambrosio – who didn’t miss the show – Louis Vuitton had to pay tribute to this influence and designed an outfit drawing inspiration from the work of Aldemir Martins, “A Fera” (“The beast”), an homage to Pelé.
In addition to the models, and bloggers such as Miroslava Duma and Chiara Ferragni, who have been reporting their journey on social networks over the past few days, one could also notice Alicia Vikander, with an original strap dress and heeled boots, very similar to those she was wearing at the Met Gala; as well as Jaden Smith, with a black look. Other celebrities attending the show included Catherine Deneuve and Zendaya.
