The center is one of the only galleries in Canada to offer exhibitions that illustrate historical and current trends in graphic design, industrial design, urban design, architecture and fashion.

Pelletier is an architect by training and holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in architecture from McGill University.

She has been a professor at UQAM since 2006 where she headed the Undergraduate Program in Environmental Design from 2008 to 2012, as well as the School of Design from 2014 to 2017. Prior to that, she taught at the School of Architecture at McGill University from 1997 to 2006.

She’s also been published in architecture and design journals across Canada, the United States and Europe, and is the author of several books on the history and theory of architecture.

While her background is architecture, Pelletier has deemed herself a proponent for all forms of design practices.

“Today, the exhibition spaces of design and architecture have become centers of formal and spatial experimentation and highlight the role of the designer as a sociocultural and political actor. The management of the Design Center is for me an exceptional opportunity to reflect on the potential of this form of dissemination, and to address the ideas behind various design practices," Pelletier said in a news statement.

The Centre de design de l’UQAM is located in Montreal at 1440, rue Sanguinet.
