Mert & Marcus fashion photography exhibition opens in Paris

After completing its London stint November 3, the "Mert & Marcus: Works 2001-2014" exhibition is heading to the French capital from November 9 to 16. This is the first major retrospective dedicated to the famous fashion photography duo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott.

Auctioneers Phillips has joined forces with Art Partner to present the "Mert & Marcus: Works 2001-2014" exhibition. After opening in London, this retrospective is heading to the French capital's Phillips Gallery (46 rue du Bac, 75007 Paris) from November 9 to 16. It's a great opportunity for fans to catch a glimpse of some the iconic pair's most emblematic photos.

Twenty years of success

Mert & Marcus form a significant duo and an inseparable team who made their mark on the worlds of photography and fashion. Both born in 1971, the two photographers followed distinct career paths -- music and graphic design -- before meeting in London in 1994.

Their first photos as a duo met with immediate success, with the pair landing their first cover with "Dazed & Confused" in 1997. The pair went on to capture a multitude of glamorous and sensual shots for major magazines, including Vogue and Vanity Fair, while also shooting advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Lancôme, Versace and Yves Saint Laurent.

In 2006, Mert & Marcus were picked to shoot the Pirelli calendar, capturing the likes of Gisele Bündchen, Natalia Vodianova, Jennifer Lopez and Kate Moss with seductive and distinctive style. A shot of Kate Moss, half undressed with a cigarette hanging from her lips, proved a particular standout.

18 iconic photos

This first major exhibition of work by the fashion photographers features 18 now emblematic photographs -- nine black and white, nine color -- taken between 2001 and 2014.

The shots see fashion icons in seductive poses. Kate Moss features in several of the exhibition's photos, as well as Cara Delevingne and Lara Stone. 

The works will be auctioned by Phillips after the exhibition closes.
