Missy Empire sales soar in August

Another young UK fashion e-tailer said this week that its sales are powering ahead with Manchester-based Missy Empire seeing sales rising 22% compared to July to reach £0.5 million in August.

Missy Empire is still small but is growing fast at present

The company, which only launched in May 2015, said August 31 was its busiest day with sales of £30,000 in just 24 hours.

Owner Ash Siddique cited the firm’s exclusive style offer as helping to drive the sales growth, as well as its fast trend reaction. But its keen prices are also likely to be a factor with the firm selling items such occasion jumpsuits for less than £30, a puffer jacket for £35, jeans for £26 to £28, ankle boots for £24, and sunglasses for £8 to £17. The entry price on the site is around £5 with nothing sold for over £80.

Siddique said the company is continuing to grow and attract new customers and its staff numbers have risen from just three to 24. That growth is leading him to target turnover this year of over £6.5 million.

Missy Empire is one of a raft of retailers to have emerged in recent years and to have carved out (or to be in the process of carving out) sizeable businesses among younger consumers seeking a variety of looks from athleisure to sexy occasionwear.

The rise of brands such as Boohoo, Missguided and Quiz has come as longer-established firms have struggled.
