Paris haute couture: Bouchra Jarrar

This Tuesday, January 27, the Parisian fashion house presented its Spring-Summer 2015 haute couture line just around the corner from the Arc de Triomphe. The silhouettes have a decidedly contemporary and urban feel, in part thanks to bold combinations of materials.

Coherent yet full of contrasts, the latest Bouchra Jarrar haute couture collection is urban yet traditional, feminine yet masculine.

Miniskirts in houndstooth tweeds -- updated with provocative zippers, shimmery accents and leather panels -- are worn with immaculate white shirts and with jackets in leather, houndstooth or both.

The silhouettes are long and slender, the legs never-ending, and the waists not necessarily emphasized. Another bold touch is the fur, worn around the neck with tweed or leather.

Alongside these more traditional materials, the fashion house also experiments with latex and pleather in this haute couture line, namely in pants. Transparent fabrics make a strong showing as well, revealing the occasional breast.

Zippers, whether straight or asymmetrical, add a twist to everything from skirts to jackets and dresses.

At the show, the urban chic mood underscoring the entire line was perhaps best embodied in the final look: a splendid white tuxedo with a single button, worn without a shirt to emphasize a sublime plunging neckline.
