Retailer The Sting denies it is to exit last UK store

Dutch retailer The Sting has denied it is closing its last remaining store in the UK. The store, a large location at the Piccadilly Circus end of Regent Street covers nearly 34,000 sq ft and reports had said the company is currently mulling options as to when and how it would exit the unit that it has occupied since 2010.

The Sting is quitting its last UK store but there is no news on its website

The company told Fashion Network today that it has been contacted by other brands who are interested in the location. It added: “However we have no intention to leave London. Business is going great, we are investing in remodelling and the opening of new stores and will continue to do so the coming years.”

The retailer previously closed its only other UK store, a fairly new 20,000 sq ft site at Westfield Stratford. At the time of its Stratford closure announcement, The Sting said it had no plans to vacate the Piccadilly Circus site.

It continues to operate over 50 stores in Europe with four in Belgium, three in Germany and a large number in its home market, The Netherlands.

The company debuted in Britain six years ago at the high-profile Piccadilly Circus location previously held by Tower Records, the Virgin Megastore and Zavvi. It was originally home to famous London department store Swan & Edgar.

It is one of the most heavily-visited locations in the West End of London.
