Tapestry signs on to United Nations Global Compact

Published
Oct 9, 2018

Multinational luxury fashion holding company Tapestry Inc. has signed the United Nations Global Compact, an initiative for businesses to adopt sustainable and socially responsible practices.

As a signatory, Tapestry publicly commits to using ethical business practices based on the pillars of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. - Via Tapestry, Inc.

Tapestry joins 9,830 other companies who have signed to the compact, which encourages ethical business practices based on the pillars of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

"At Tapestry, we recognize that corporate responsibility is a key component of a sustainable business model," said Victor Luis, Chief Executive Officer of Tapestry, Inc. "Our alignment with the UN Global Compact demonstrates our commitment to driving meaningful positive change -- not just for our company, but for the greater global community.”

This decision continues a chain of corporate responsibility initiatives made by the American company. After going public in 2001, Tapestry published a Supplier Code of Conduct and Social Auditing Program which detailed a company focus on social and environmental compliance, followed by the establishment of an official sustainability program in 2013.

Most recently, the fashion holding company initiated a set of corporate responsibility goals in 2015, which include targets centered on climate change, water, waste management and social issues.

Established in 1999, the United Nations Global Compact requires its signatories to release public reports detailing their progress and continued commitment each year.

Counting Kate Spade and Coach among its subsidiaries, Tapestry rides an ever-growing wave of sustainability interest in the fashion world.
