Target to phase out some of its most popular brands as part of a revamp to its line up

The retail chain will phase out some of its longstanding brands to make way for new labels. Among those to be cut are the Merona and Mossimo labels.

Target's Merona line. - Target

Target announced in a press release that certain labels will be phased out from its stores by 2019 to make room for 12 new brand that will be exclusive to the retail giant. The store has begun phasing out the children’s lines Cherokee and Circo and will also phase out popular labels like Merona and Mossimo.

New introductions to the store include children’s apparel from Art Class and Cat & Jack, while brands like A New Day, Goodfellow & Co, and JoyLab will fill in the offerings for men and women.

The changes to its lineup will allow Target to compete with major retailers like Amazon, which has also put a bigger focus on fashion-forward offerings. In addition to the changes to its inventory, Target will also introduce new technological and digital innovation to its stores.

“Taken together, these changes will create an experience—a new, fresh interpretation of the 'Tar-zhay' that we know our guests love—that ultimately will drive preference and bring real, affordable joy to our guests’ everyday moments,” Mark Tritton, Target’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, said in a statement.
