The Global Denim Awards go to Sartoria Diletto and Candiani duo

The second edition of the Global Denim Awards has celebrated denim with a sartorial feel. Eight designers competed for the award, each of them associated with a denim manufacturer.

The contest was held within the Kingpins show in Amsterdam on 28th and 29th October, a showcase of the latest trends from denim manufacturers. The prize was awarded to Sartoria Diletto, led by Andrea Diletto, using fabrics by Candiani.

The designer and the producer worked together on five styles inspired by the Italian tailoring tradition. "I wanted to discover a new world, a world in blue. A combination of Italian heritage with a new perspective on tailored denim," the Germany-born but Milan-based designer has explained. His approach charmed a jury led by Pierre Morisset from G-Star and Adriano Goldschmied, who was involved in the launches of Diesel and Replay.

The designer pocketed €10,000, and his creations will be presented at the Kingpins shows in Amsterdam, New York and Hong Kong, and during the forthcoming Amsterdam Denim Days from 11th to 17th April.
