The Met extends Manus x Machina exhibit to September 5

Published

Manus x Machina will be at the Met longer than initially planned. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Spring 2016 exhibition was just extended three more weeks and will now close on September 5. The Met originally scheduled to close the exhibition on August 14.

The exhibit explores technology’s impact on fashion design and manufacturing as well as fashion’s evolution from handmade goods to machine-made goods and mass production. Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology has over 30 ensembles on display from a number of designers and fashion houses including Chanel, Dior, Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Hussein Chayalan and Iris Van Herpen among others.

The Met opened the exhibit on May 5, and so far it has drawn over 350,000 visitors in its first nine weeks. The attendance numbers are close behind 2011’s Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty and 2015’s China: Through the Looking Glass that attracted 661,509 visitors and 815,992 visitors, respectively.
