The Salon International de la Lingerie brings together 490 brands this year

Published
Jan 21, 2016

They were 480 last year, and in 2016 they are 490. It is time for a new gathering of the underwear, homewear and hosiery brands, which will get together in slightly greater numbers for the Salon International de la Lingerie, being held from 23rd to 25th January. As usual, the event will occupy the Exhibition Park's Hall 1 at Paris' Porte de Versailles.

A few more brands will be attending this year, though this is again a problematic year for the lingerie business. The industry rallied in 2015 (+1.7% in sales for the lingerie sector alone, -0.4% including footwear in France, according to IFM) and its winter show has done the same. "A stable number of visitors would already be satisfactory... Market data are offering some encouraging signs, but the situation remains tense for industry players," commented Taya de Reyniès, in charge of the lingerie section at Eurovet, the show's organiser.

Specifically, it was already clear from pre-registration data that there is a reluctance by the Japanese to travel to Paris, as many other show organisers have noted too. But the show notably hopes to compensate this shortfall with a greater presence of Russian visitors compared to last year, their market crisis having been at its highest in early 2015.

France still accounts for 25% of exhibitors, and the second-ranked country, Italy, will also send some new entrants, Diesel and Trussardi among them. US brand Only Hearts and British brand Bluebella are also expected to gain attention.

Novelties will be featured in the men's area too. Besides the mixed-gender brands exhibiting throughout the show, this edition will host about 20 brands that are 100% focused on men's underwear, including new entries Eden Park, Impetus and Replay.
