V&A collaborates with State Tretyakov Gallery, Vogue Russia.

London's Victoria & Albert Museum, know for its art and design collections and fashion exhibitions, has just announced a new three-way partnership between the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and Vogue Russia.

The three partners will develop and curate a major new exhibition together, which will examine the influence of Russia on 20th century and contemporary Western fashion. It will include fashion, fine art, film and photography, and feature works by leading artists and designers, from Bakst to Rodchenko, Paul Poiret to Jean Paul Gaultier.

The V&A already has "significant" collections of Russian metalwork, jewellery, and theatre and performance-related objects, as well as Russian furniture, textiles, glass, sculpture and paintings. The exhibition will also feature collections from the State Tretyakov Gallery and The Vogue Archive, and be  complemented by international loans. It's expected to open in 2020 and will move to the State Tretyakov Gallery in spring 2021.

Martin Roth, Director of the V&A, said: “This exciting partnership will see the Museum embark on a new era of working with Russia and initiate the process of not just cultural exchange but co-creating cultural content. Russia is a fascinating country of contrasts, but it remains shrouded in mystery. This co-curation presents a wonderful opportunity to work with our Russian partners to promote greater understanding of Russia’s rich and diverse cultural history.”

Condé Nast Russia's President Anita Gigovskaya said that even though Russia has never itself been a power in world fashion, it has often had the power to influence world fashion.

The V&A also recently announced a major collaboration with The Smithsonian, the largest museum in the US.
