Valentino opens new flagship in Hong Kong

Published
Feb 16, 2017

Valentino is going against the fashion retail grain. The Italian casa has unveiled a new flagship store Hong Kong, at a time when luxury big names and fast-fashion giants are shuttering flagships due to expensive rents and lower footfall.

Inside the new Hong Kong flagship - Valentino

The new Valentino flagship is in the city's Lee Garden One in the bustling Causeway Bay. It's the same shopping district where Ralph Lauren recently had a flagship, before quietly closing its doors in December, just two years after opening it.

The new Valentino store is a two-storey boutique spanning 382 square metres. The interior design is by the label's creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, working together with British architect David Chipperfield. It is a blend of antique and contemporary style, creating "something of a palace atmosphere," the fashion label stated, in a press release.

Materials on display include Venetian terrazzo, Palladiana, Carrara marble and timber furniture.

The retail launch is the latest in a string of 160 mono-brand store openings operated by the Italian luxury label, in which the new store design will feature. Other recent store openings include Valentino's Australian standalone store debut in Melbourne in late December 2016.

The luxury Italian brand is now owned by the Mayhoola investment company belonging to the Qatari royal family.
