World’s first ‘smart street’ to be created in Central London

The New West End Company has announced plans to transform a Central London street into an oasis of the latest technology and innovation, cutting-edge fashion and sustainability.

Dubbed as the world’s first ‘smart street’, Bird Street will be reinvented with a range of progressive sustainable technologies including Pavegen, which converts footsteps into electricity, and Airlite’s revolutionary air purifying paint.

The traffic-free street, located between Selfridges and Gap, will also feature bespoke pop-ups for trailblazing fashion and wearable technology brands as well as innovative dining concepts.

The New West End Company is working in partnership with Appear Here, the leading online marketplace for short-team retail, to find interesting and innovative fashion and tech brands to be part of this pioneering project.

The project is being launched with funding from Transport for London.
