Amazon UK launches accelerator for start-ups

Published
Jun 24, 2020

Amazon UK has launched a new programme designed to support 200,000 small businesses and start-ups following the coronavirus pandemic.

The retail giant has partnered with Enterprise Nation, a small business support network, to launch the Amazon Small Business Accelerator, which will provide small businesses with key insights and access to free services.

The initiative is a response to how the Covid-19 lockdown has disrupted the economic wellbeing of thousands of small businesses across the UK.

Businesses across fashion, beauty & wellbeing, food & drink, services, and home & leisure can sign up online and take a quick diagnostic test to find the learning path that best fits with the current stage of their journey.

The accelerator includes dedicated Amazon Web Services (AWS) training, virtual masterclasses and industry talks from Amazon experts.

Additionally, a week-long bootcamp will provide additional, tailored personal training and expertise for up to 1,000 start-ups and small businesses.

Doug Gurr, UK country manager at Amazon, said: “We have a long track record of supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses, with more than half of all products sold on Amazon stores coming from our selling partners. Many businesses have found their way through the crisis by providing goods and services online.

“Now the Amazon Small Business Accelerator with Enterprise Nation will provide thousands of offline and online businesses with the tools and support they need to succeed in the digital world, to reach customers through Amazon or any other service.”

Emma Jones, head of Enterprise Nation, said this is their “most ambitious and important programme to date”.

Further support for start-ups includes fee waivers for new selling partners on Fulfilment by Amazon, while Amazon Launchpad, the company’s programme showcasing cutting-edge products from the latest start-ups, has offered ongoing fee relief and online training on funding, marketing and other topics.
