Aspinal of London adds to Midi Mayfair line-up as royal influencer drives interest

Published
Oct 8, 2019

Aspinal of London has added to its Midi Mayfair bag offer with new colours. That in itself may not be huge news, but it’s a further sign of the importance of two of the biggest influencers in the UK at the moment, both of them royal.

Aspinal of London

We’ve already seen how Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has been able to drive sales of bags by Strathberry through the roof and the latest Aspinal move is linked to endorsement by her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge.

The British luxury accessories brand has added three new colourways to its best known design, which is a structured bag hand-made in a patent croc. The bag in its black and lilac colours has generated plenty of publicity in the past year with the former Kate Middleton first being seen carrying it last October and then again in January.

Just in time for Christmas, three contemporary seasonal shades will be launching online — called Penelope Pink, Bright Mustard and Midnight Blue. These are a combination of bright colour pops complemented by rich, darker tones, in addition to the eight existing colourways.

The Duchess has been winning an increasing number of plaudits for her fashion choices in recent months that have edged her away from the ultra-conservative looks she wore not that many years ago. And this is helping a raft of UK fashion brands, Aspinal among them.

As mentioned, Meghan Markle’s adoption of Strathberry as a favourite bag label has had a major impact too. It started back in late 2017 when the first of the label’s bags that she carried sold out in 11 minutes after she was photographed holding it. The brand has remained a sellout at many stores ever since.

And earlier this year, Lyst said that the two duchesses has generated over 20 million search queries in the past two years and interest in both was rising with Meghan-linked searches up 216% and those for Kate up 119%.
