Atterley secures Alexandra Shulman as strategic adviser

Edinburgh-based online fashion marketplace Atterley has secured the backing of former British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman.

Alexandra Shulman - Atterley, Ki Price

A highly influential figure in the fashion industry, Shulman will join the Atterley team as strategic adviser.

She served as editor-in-chief of British Vogue for 25 years, making her the longest-serving editor in Vogue’s history. She is also the author of Clothes... and other things that matter, which was released last month.

Atterley founder and chairman Mike Welch said: “Alexandra joins our team at the perfect time. We are growing quickly and have plans to step up boutique recruitment, engage fashion brands and grow consumer outreach. We see ourselves as a fashion reference point for consumers as well as a retail destination.

“Alexandra has spent 25 years of her working life creating arguably the best fashion reference point in the world, we cannot fail to benefit from her support.”

The website provides a platform for more than 250 independent boutiques to compete with larger rivals. The lockdown has helped it post a 200% increase in sales year-on-year as store closures meant more shoppers embraced online retail.

Additionally, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched to raise £400,000 to fund an expansion in overseas regions, including the US, and support the further development of its marketplace technology.

With two more weeks to go, the campaign has currently received more than £356,000 from 159 investors.

Commenting on her appointment, Alexandra Shulman said: “I admire the way that Atterley works to support the independent boutiques that are such a crucial and enjoyable part of our fashion chain.

“When online and bricks and mortar can work hand-in-hand it’s a winning outcome for both the retailer and the customer. I look forward to seeing more people taking part in the Atterley.com experience and accessing the ranges of well priced, well-sourced fashion."
