Bicester Village links with Maiyet Collective for full-price eco pop-up

Published
Nov 11, 2019

Bicester Village has been making a big impact with its pop-up strategy in recent years and its latest, in time for the very busy Christmas season, is all about eco.

The Maiyet Collective has opened a Bicester Village pop-up

The pop-up from The Maiyet Collective is a global curation of “positive-impact luxury brands” and takes in ready-to-wear, beauty, accessories, lifestyle and fine jewellery. It opened on Saturday and runs until December 23 with a rotating curation of 40 “conscious designers”.

What’’s particularly significant is that it’s the first full-price shop at the destination outlet village and underlines the importance of eco products and the confidence Bicester has in the appeal of sustainable brands.

The labels in the shop include artisanal jewellery brands Sandy Leong and Flora Bhattachary, La Pochette accessories, “ethereal” women’s ready-to-wear from Edward Mongzar, sustainable hair accessories from Saya Designs and ‘clean’ skincare by Malako and PurEarth.

The Maiyet Collective was founded by Paul van Zyl, who is also a human rights campaigner and founder of ‘sustainable’ members club The Conduit in London. His aim with Maiyet is to teach “the true value of fashion”.

“The future of fashion will require the perfect blend of ethics, desire, design and sustainability,” he said. “The Maiyet Collective and Bicester Village will blend these imperatives and offer the largest collection of ethical and sustainable brands under one roof. This will offer shoppers an unparalleled opportunity to look great while supporting ethical brands.”

Bicester is diving deeper into the whole issue of sustainability than just the pop-up and there will also be a series of public talks hosted in The Apartment, the Village’s VIP Lounge. The line-up includes a look at making ethical jewellery with diamond expert Helena Lappin; how to build a sustainable wardrobe with the British clothing brand Deploy; how to create a toxic-free home with Angelika Davenport, the founder of chemical-free cleaning brand Tincture; and more.

The Maiyet activation at the outlet village is part of an on-going link between the two and we'll see a series of collaborations with The Bicester Village Shopping Collection destinations. The boutique is set to tour the Collection in Ireland, Spain and China next year.
