Boohoo launches recycled plastic collection, four-point sustainability plan

Published
May 14, 2021

Boohoo is continuing its self-cleansing process. The online fast fashion retail giant has not only launched a new clothing range made from recycled plastic but also published its ‘Ready For The Future’ commitment to sustainability.

Part of Boohoo's new 'Redcycled Collection'

First the new product range. It’s called the ‘Recycled Collection’ that has seen Boohoo work with a UK-based supplier to create items that use 95% recycled polyester and 5% elastane, plastic-based materials that could have gone to landfill sites.

The range comprises seam dresses, crop tops, body suits, mini-skirts, leggings and wide-leg trousers with a colour palette including neutral brown, beige, pink, baby blue and bottle green.

The range is available in sizes 8-24 with prices ranging £10-£20.

Boohoo also said the range’s neck labels, swing tags and packaging are additionally made from recycled materials.

The launch of the collection comes as Boohoo Group publishing its The Ready For The Future pledge includes four key sustainability commitments: by 2025, all of Boohoo’s polyester and cotton will be recycled or more sustainable; building on the work it's done done to divert textile waste in its own operations from landfill, it would extend this to its UK supply chain. It's also looking at developing different ways for customers to recycle their garments and investigate resale platforms; despatch bags now contain over 80% of recycled plastic and it's making further progress on making all types of packaging sustainable; and it's committed to being transparent about its goals and will share them regularly with investors and stakeholders.

Its release comes after Boohoo’s image was tarnished by poor supply chain issues, including labour abuses and poor working conditions at its Leicester factories.
