Bridalwear designer Cristina Tamborero debuts in Paris

"A dream" is how Spanish designer Cristina Tamborero described her first time at Paris Fashion Week. This strategic debut in her career has been delayed for two years due to the pandemic, but now aims to boost the internationalization of the bridal firm. For seven years now, the brand has presented its collections as part of the Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, the leading bridal fashion event in Europe.

The show staged in the halls of the Ritz Hotel located in the luxurious Place Vendôme in Paris presented "Fantasy", the collection that the designer defines as "the brand's most special to date".

"We have been creating it for two years and this fashion show has been postponed two times," explained the founder of the brand founded in 2014 to FashionNetwork.com about the impact of the pandemic on the firm’s organization of physical events. Celebrities and influencers such as Helen Lindes, Alba Carrillo, Marta Carriedo, María Hernández, and Nat Cebrián all showed up wearing exclusive designs to the event that they certainly did not want to miss.

The 13 haute couture dresses characterized by "very artisanal handmade work" and its usual delicate style featured combinations of chiffon, organza and tulle, as well as floral prints. The romantic atmosphere was colored in shades of yellow, pink, aquamarine and jade, and included embroidered 3D motifs, handmade by the seamstresses who work in the label’s ateliers in Barcelona.

"We never thought of parading in Paris before," said the designer, recalling the pleasant surprise of receiving the call inviting her to participate in Paris Fashion Week. "In the end, we chose to be here in order to internationalize the firm, reaching new markets through carefully selected points of sale," she detailed about her strategy of selective expansion of the brand positioned in both a premium and couture price segment: from 2000 euros for wedding guest dresses to around 6000 for bridal gowns.

Sustained growth

Today, with only one physical point of sale in her atelier in Barcelona located at 413 Avenida Diagonal, Tamborero has a portfolio of loyal international clients from countries such as Argentina, Panama, Italy and the United Kingdom. The firm has experienced a "very positive" recovery since the pandemic period, when its number of employees doubled and sales did not dramatically decline due to weddings in small groups still being permitted.

Tamborero is not opposed to the entry of external capital, but it would have to be in a very specific situation where the brand does not lose its artisanal and very personalized essence. "We are like a family. The most important thing for me is quality, and I don't want to lose it by favoring accelerated growth," explained the creator who trained at the Instituto Europeo di Design.

"The wedding guest and ready-to-wear lines have growth potential, but I want to take it step by step. I don't want to expand and in turn distort the brand identity," she concluded about her niche and selective character which earned her a ticket to organize a magical night in Paris.
