Chanel launches new beauty project 'Comètes Collective'

Chanel's makeup creation studio is taking one step forward in terms of innovation by launching a new project entitled 'Comètes Collective', which aims to build a community of emerging makeup artists. In parallel to the unveiling of the aforementioned project, the iconic brand founded by Coco Chanel has appointed three makeup artists as global creative makeup partners to lead the creation of its color cosmetics.

Comètes Collective's trio of make-up artists - Chanel

Ammy Drammeh, Cécile Paravina and Valentina Li have become the first artists to join the collective, which Chanel defines as "a group of emerging talents shaping the future of beauty" to establish a forward-looking creative dialogue.

The main goal of this initiative is to offer a pluralistic vision of beauty by means of a creative movement within the maison's makeup creation studio. It is a "paradigm shift" aimed at promoting emerging talents in the beauty and make-up industry, while remaining true to the values and identity of the renowned luxury brand. The collective’s first collections will be presented in January of next year.

"The house is proud to partner with these artists, the deserving recipients of international acclaim for their creativity, their expertise and their free and authentic visions of beauty," Chanel said in a statement, detailing that their new creative collaborators "will contribute to the development of new collections and imagine inspiring content for Chanel makeup lovers".

Three rising stars, the beginning of a creative project underway

This new creative approach represents a change within Chanel's makeup department, following the departure of Lucia Pica, who was in charge of make-up and color creation for the French brand.

After six years working for the maison, the Italian makeup artist left her post to take over the co-direction of image and make-up creation for the Swedish firm Byredo. The collective, which will gradually be joined by new talents and visions, is presenting for the moment three creatives coming from multicultural backgrounds and boasting brilliant careers.

Despite having grown up in Spain, Gambian-born makeup artist Drammeh has mainly based her career in London, where she arrived in 2010. Since then, her work has been published in magazines such as Dazed and Vogue and in campaigns for luxury brands such as Gucci, Dior and Bottega Veneta.

For her part, Belgian artist Paravina graduated from the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Antwerp before moving to Paris. Her innovative makeup techniques have already been featured in campaigns done in collaboration with photographers Lea Colombo and Elizaveta Porodina and stylist Georgia Pendlebury.

Finally, Guangxi-born make-up artist Li, who is based between Beijing and Paris, possesses a colorful, fantastical signature style that has already been featured in editorials published in magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, Dazed, Vogue, T Magazine and Elle.
