The American investment firm Sun Capital Partners announced Wednesday that it had completed the sale of the intimate apparel company DBApparel (Dim, Playtex and Wonderbra) to the American clothing company Hanesbrands (HBI) for 400 million euros.

"The new company HBI / DBA will share worldwide rights to the brands Playtex, Wonderbra and Dim", a spokesperson from Sun Capital told the AFP.

The idea for “400 million euro” sale was presented in June.

The operation will respond to aims for geographic complementarity, the French number one lingerie retailer a leader in Europe, while HBI, which also distributes global brands such as Hanes, Champion, Playtex and Wonderbra is hardly present.

DBApparel employs 7,500 people and has seven factories worldwide, the largest of which is located in Autun (Saône-et-Loire), where Dim was founded in 1956.

The apparel company made nearly 45% of its sales in France in 2010, but has relocated a part of its production to Romania.

"With the combination of DBA and HBI resulting in a true global presence, I am confident that this operation will ensure DBA’s continued development," said Lionel de Posson, vice president of Sun Capital Partners, in a statement.

In June, HBI indicated that at the current stage, they had no reason to consider a restructuring plan for DBA.

The sale of DBApparel, acquired by Sun Capital Partners in 2006 from the US-based company Sara Lee, had set about in June 2012 before being suspended in May 2013 due to a lack of sufficiently attractive offers.

Hanesbrands and DBApparel were originally sister companies, both owned by Sara Lee.
