Dutch e-tailer Bol.com has plans to open an additional office in Antwerp, Belgium. The office will be the e-tailer’s first operation outside the Netherlands.

The Bol.com Belgium office branch is set to open in May at its earliest, reports Belgian newspaper De Tijd. The upcoming office will employ about ten people, who will be tasked with attracting Belgian brands, businesses and retailers to start offering their products via the Dutch e-tailer. In addition, the Belgium office will also support Belgian companies who are currently active on the online platform.

“[By offering their products via Bol.com] companies will have the opportunity to significantly increase their sales market via the Bol.com platform. Their range will not only become available to Belgian customers, but also to millions of Dutch customers. This will result in an extra stimulus for Belgian retail,” the company said.

Bol.com has been one of the most popular online stores in the Netherlands and Belgium since its launch in 1999.

The e-tailer currently serves over nine million Dutch and Belgian customers. Its assortment includes 16 million items in more than 20 product categories, ranging from personal care products, accessories and jewellery to books, electronics and children’s clothing. Bol.com has been part of Ahold Delhaize since May 2012.

The headquarters is based in Utrecht and currently employs more than 1,400 people.
