eBay Europe head Hattrell poached by Asda backer TDR

Asda backer TDR Capital has poached eBay European boss Rob Hattrell, joining the private equity firm as a partner from September.

His appointment coincides with Asda announcing this week that its current chief customer officer Meghan Farren is leaving the UK value supermarket giant after less than a year in the post.

Hattrell joined eBay in 2017 from Tesco where he ran the supermarket giant’s general merchandise business since 2009.

An eBay spokesman confirmed to Retail Week Hattrell’s departure next month after five years at the marketplace giant “to pursue a new opportunity”. He led the UK business for three years until 2020 when he took over responsibility for all European markets.

Hattrell joins TDR soon after it and EG Group founders Mohsin and Zuber Issa completed their acquisition of Asda. He was also reportedly approached to replace former ASOS chief executive Nick Beighton at the online fashion giant, but turned down the offer.

Meanwhile, his departure from eBay has also spurred an international leadership team shake-up. GM North America Jordan Sweetnam will be stepping in to fill the gap by taking over global eBay Markets with Murray Lambell overseeing eBayUK.
