Fast Retailing to launch J Brand in Japan

Japanese group Fast Retailing has announced plans to establish a subsidiary company – J Brand Japan – in order to create and develop J Brand business in the country. The subsidiary will be fully owned by the retailing group, which paid in 10 million yen to the capital.

Fast Retailing is company that designs, manufactures and sells clothing for brands Comptoir des Cotonniers, GU, Helmut Lang, Princesse Tam Tam, Theory and Uniqlo. American denim brand J Brand entered the Fast Retailing portfolio when the group took a majority stake in the label in December 2012.

The company plans to sell the brand in Japan through the opening of directly-owned J Brand stores in country as well as a through a network of select retailers. Operations are expected to start in the autumn.

J Brand products are currently sold in over 2,000 stores in more than 20 countries worldwide. With global sales of approximately 928 billion yen for the 2012 fiscal year ending August 31, 2012, Fast Retailing is currently the world's fourth largest apparel retail company.
