Fila: Medico to also handle footwear for the Deichmann-owned brand

The bankruptcy of Dutch footwear giant USG Brands has affected the business of several labels. Le Coq Sportif, for which USG was a licensee in many countries, has thus decided to take over Benelux directly.

USG's troubles also gave Fila, owned by Deichmann through its Swiss subsidiary Dosenbach Ochsner, the opportunity to streamline its organisation. As a result, Fila's footwear licence, which was held by the Dutch group, was assigned to Medico, already a licensee for apparel. Medico is a subsidiary of German group JCK, which also owns Scandinavian outdoor brand Houdini. The licence agreement's initial term is reportedly ten years, and it will be valid for Europe.

A new organisation was created for footwear, again based in the Netherlands, staffed with some of USG Brands' former employees. The company, Medico Footwear Fashion, will work via distributors and commercial directors. All sales teams will be starting again with the Spring-Summer 2017, featuring footwear, apparel and accessories, except for tennis apparel.

According to our information, Fila is worth approximately €200 million at retail value.
