Groupon launches in Sharjah

Groupon United Arab Emirates, a shopping website that offers a daily deal on the best local goods, services and cultural events, expands its local presence with the launch of Groupon Sharjah on June 12, 2011.

“As UAE’s third largest city and a center of culture and industry, Sharjah is an ideal market for the Groupon model,” said Faisal Haq, CEO of Groupon UAE. “We look forward to offering local residents unbeatable deals on the best that Sharjah has to offer, while driving new customers to area merchants.”

Using the principles of collective buying, Groupon negotiates unprecedented discounts with popular businesses. Groupon subscribers get free daily emails alerting them to the deals. By guaranteeing a large number of new customers, Groupon has created a powerful new marketing vehicle for local merchants. This innovative approach to e-commerce has brought millions of dollars in new revenue to local businesses while saving more than $2 billion for subscribers worldwide.

“Buyers and sellers are connected in a fun and collaborative way with Groupon,” said Haq. “We drive direct sales to local businesses and offer consumers deep discounts they can’t get anywhere else.”

Upcoming Sharjah features will include spa packages, local restaurants and leisure activities. As Groupon UAE’s third market, Sharjah users join subscribers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi currently enjoying Groupon deals.

Groupon, launched in November 2008 in Chicago, features a daily deal on the best stuff to do, eat, see and buy in 43 countries around the world, delivering more than 1,000 daily deals globally.
