Inditex signs deal with Tata to introduce Massimo Dutti to India

Published

Inditex and Tata are tightening their ties in the Indian market. In 2009, the Spanish fast-fashion giant entered into a joint-venture contract with Indian company Trent, the retail arm of the Tata group, for the entry of its Zara brand in India.

Today, Zara’s presence in the country consists of 4 stores found in New-Delhi and Bombay. The group’s flagship brand is now going to be joined in India by one of Inditex’s other retail chains, Massimo Dutti, with the help of Trent Ltd. The two entities have signed another joint-venture, of which 51% is owned by the Spanish group, in order to develop Massimo Dutti in India. Inditex will be able to count on Trent’s retail expertise, as the latter already operates two fashion chains, Westside and Fashion Yatra, as well as supermarket Star Bazaar and book and music retail chain Landmark. Founded in 1985, Massimo Dutti was bought by Inditex in 1991 and currently sells its collections for men, women and children in more than 500 boutiques across 50 countries.
