Italy launches a unique Master in Creative Knitwear

Special alert for knitwear enthusiasts! Italy has launched a highly specialised training course called 'Creative Knitwear Master' (CKM). This masters in creative knitwear originated with the Modateca Deanna, a centre for textile documentation which holds an exceptional heritage in its archives: over 50,000 fashion items created by great couturiers such as Kenzo, Giorgio Armani, Martin Margiela, Neil Barrett and Lawrence Steele.

The CKM is a unique creative knitwear master course

The course was devised "to increase the knowledge of made-in-Italy products and Italian know-how," and will be organised in partnership with Imax, a knitwear manufacturer belonging to the Max Mara Fashion Group, and with textile company Enka.

It is an elite course, since only 10 designers will have the opportunity to participate. They will be selected based on their CVs and after presenting a portfolio and illustrating their ambitions in an interview. The application deadline is 30th June. The course will be held from 4th October 2016 to 27th May 2017 in San Martino in Rio, where the Modateca Deanna is located. The town is in the heart of the Emilia-Romagna region, home to Italy's knitwear industry.

The Master's scientific and academic committee will include among others Max Mara's fashion coordinator Laura Lusuardi, Antonio Marras, Ermanno Scervino, the President of the Italian Fashion Chamber Carlo Capasa, Laudomia Pucci, Floriane de St. Pierre and Deanna Ferretti, the Modateca's founder.

"This is an absolutely unique course, since the participants will be supported by the greatest knitwear experts. They will be able to study yarn spinning and finishing techniques with our partners, and acquire an expertise which is hard to to obtain through traditional educational curricula," explained a Modateca Deanna spokesperson.

"Crucially, each participant will be flanked by one of our 10 partner companies in the creation of a capsule collection, and will benefit from the professional contacts that are essential for working in this industry," concluded the centre's spokesperson.

The Master will also offer the possibility of working on a special project focusing on alpaca wool, in collaboration with the Peruvian government and the Michell group, a Peruvian manufacturer specialised in this fibre.
