Jigsaw to open new concept store in Shop at Bluebird's ex-home

A major landlord in London’s Covent Garden has announced a number of new openings in the area with one of the most interesting being a forthcoming flagship/concept store from Jigsaw.

It’s particularly noteworthy because the mid-market retailer, which is closing its ambitious luxury store The Shop At Bluebird this weekend, will actually be expanding into the Bluebird space in the Grade II listed Carriage Hall on Floral Street next month.

It’s an extensive space with he store until now having hosted multiple luxury fashion brands and high-end arts and interiors product too. So it will be interesting to see what Jigsaw makes of it given its single-brand focus. But the company has a track record of creating impressive concept stores with its Duke Street W1 location (later closed and now occupied by French Connection) having also added arts and a cafe into the fashion retail mix.

Landlord Capital & Counties Properties (Capco) also said APC has just opened in Floral Street too, while American Vintage is planing a new store there that’s set to open this summer.

The street, best known as the long-time home of Paul Smith, has been given a new lease of life in recent periods with last year seeing openings including Glossier, Free People and Alex Monroe. Additionally, Peloton’s first flagship studio outside the US will open on the street later this year.

The wider Covent Garden area will also see new stores from accessories brands Strathberry and Lulu Guinness. The former will open in the Market Building with the latter taking space on King Street, joining the existing line-up of British brands on the estate including Burberry, Mulberry, Penhaligon’s and Jo Malone London.

Again, there were plenty of notable openings last year too with Hawkers, L’Occitane and Happy Socks located within Covent Garden’s Market Building and Polo Ralph Lauren having opened a menswear store on King Street in December.
